About "Alex Heidebrecht"
Born in Almaty Kazakhstan, Alex Heidebrecht is a painter and draughtsman working in Düsseldorf. His technically highly sophisticated paintings and drawings are characterised by an extraordinary spatial precision. Alex Heidebrecht's paintings are a combination of academic accuracy paired with elements from the urban environment of street art and borrowings from classical stage design.
This development in his painting is not an accidental mix of styles. Rather, Alex Heidebrecht learnt his academic craft at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Professor Markus Lüpertz and earned his special degree, the master student certificate with the title ‘Chevalier de la Muse’, an accolade awarded by Markus Lüpertz only to his best students for exceptional achievements.
Alexander Heidebrecht was born with a close connection to theatre painting. His father Ernst Heidebrecht, born in 1936, is one of the luminaries of international stage design. As chief stage designer of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre in Minsk, Ernst Heidebrecht was in demand worldwide as a stage designer.
Every day, Alexander went straight from school to the theatre, where he looked over his father's shoulder and got to know all the facets of developing a stage set. As a reference to this time, the viewer often finds a red curtain or similar in the works of Der Heidebrecht, which turns his pictorial productions into a kind of stage.
The third component, Street Art / Urban Art, stems from Heidebrecht's constant fascination with the urban worlds of our time. Inspired by architecture, graffiti art, street music and generally everything that makes up urban life, Alex Heidebrecht creates new spaces full of drama, poetry, dreariness and yet a liveliness that draws the viewer of his art into the work, inviting him/her to wander on a magical journey through time and space.
